The Ultimate 3-day Vernon Family Vacation
From the young to the young-at-heart, Vernon has a little something for everyone. Check out our curated suggestions for building your family’s ultimate Okanagan getaway.
Day 1
Start your trip with a delicious and informative trip to Davison Orchards. Their tractor rides on the Johnny Popper are a must-do. In the fall it takes you out to pick apples off the trees in the orchard and pick a pumpkin from the patch in October. Visit the farm animals, and be sure to grab a homemade sandwich and appleanche slushy from the Farmhouse Café.
Next cruise over to Planet Bee Honey Farm. Just next door to Davison’s, you’ll learn about the amazing honey bees, see them in action and spot the queen bee. Try 10+ flavours of honey. For the adults, try a swig of the Honeymoon Mead.
Round out your day at the beach or park for some outdoor fun in the sun. Paddlewheel Park or Hurlburt Park are our some of our family favourites. Bring a picnic and stay for the sunset.
Day 2
Take advantage of the cooler mornings to get out and bike the Okanagan Rail Trail. The trail's 50km of smooth grade path, beautiful sites, and shoreline views make it a win for every member of the family. If you need to cool off, take a dip in the lake at Kekuli Bay.
Next, head over to the Okanagan Science Centre. Catch a Planetarium show and check out the rotating exhibits in the main gallery for something new and exciting every time.
Grab dinner downtown at the Station BBQ Smokehouse for some great eats that kids love. During July and August you can watch live music in the 2900 Plaza on Thursday evenings. It’s great fun!
Day 3
Some might say we saved the best for last. On a family visit, you don’t want to miss the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. Head up for an informational walk on the Grasslands trail to learn about wildlife, birds and nature. Then take a stroll indoors for more fun and see how your wingspan compares to different types of birds.
Next, it’s probably time for a sweet treat from La Carraia Gelateria or Lollipop Lane at Vernon Teach and Learn.
Cool down indoors at The Rock Garden Climbing Centre with routes for all abilities and ages, or head to Splashdown Waterpark and hit the slides.
