Snow, Sun & Fun: The Ultimate Winter Adventure
For the intrepid spirit who enjoys all the adventure that winter brings to our region, there is no better time to visit than the snowy season. This three-day itinerary has suggestions for some of our favourite activities when that unrivaled Okanagan snow starts to fall.
Day 1
After you fuel up with a hearty breakfast, swing over to Valhalla Pure Outfitters or Predator Ridge to pick up snowshoe rentals. When the snow is blanketing our forests and the temps are just right, you can get out explore all the trails at Predator Ridge Resort, Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park, and Ellison Provincial Park. If you’re feeling adventurous, try to find the hidden frozen waterfall near Cosens Bay.
Enjoy dinner at The Med for savoury Mediterranean flavours.
Close out the day with an unforgettable sleigh ride outdoor show at Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong. Sip on a hot apple cider by the fire before embarking on a sleigh ride through the snow-covered forest.
Day 2
Set the alarm for an early start and head up to SilverStar Mountain Resort for a day of skiing and snowboarding. If you need, you can reserve rental gear for convenient pick up at the resort.
Grab lunch at The Den for a cozy fireside coffee and delicious food.
Your day ticket includes access to all resort activities. Before you head home, stop by Brewers Pond and Tube Town to skate on the frozen pond or do a few fast laps down the hill on an inner tube. It’s a blast for the young and young-at-heart.
End the day back in Vernon with dinner at Silverstar Brewing Co., Vernon’s only craft brewery.
Day 3
Today requires a bit more sleeping in and a leisurely brunch at Ratio Coffee and Restaurant. Embrace that laid-back Vernon vibe and indulge.
Next, mosey up for a few hours of cross-country skiing at the world-class Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre. Rentals and lessons are available if it is your first time or you would like a refresher.
When you head back to town, cruise on over to the Vernon Community Arts Centre for a pinot and paint evening and let your creative side show.
Then sit down for global cuisine at Sushi Kawa or the Curry Pot and call it a day!
Where to stay
The Best Western Pacific Inn and Holiday Inn Express are both located on 48th Avenue which is a straight drive up to Silver Star just 30 minutes away.
